Stuart Holt has used his life experiences to bring a unique perspective to his photography. Stuart studied photography and art at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the 1980s, studying with noted Arkansas photographers John LeMay and James McGinnis. This experience exposed him not only to traditional photographic styles but also to alternative print processes, such as gum bichromate printing.

This time of study has added a special artistic element to his photography ever since. He later specialized in photojournalism in his work at the Log Cabin Democrat newspaper in Conway. Stuart feels his experience with photojournalism has helped him with all aspects of his photographic work, especially in his ability to tell a story. "There is a story in everything and everyone, and if you can see it you must tell it in your photos," He says. Stuart has become adept at capturing the personality of a young child, showing the story of a young couple's wedding or documenting a newborn's first days.

“Photojournalism has truly given me a special perspective on things,” he said. Stuart opened his own photography business, Stuart Holt Photography, in the early 1990s, where he specializes in portraiture, a photographic style he believes is an art form in itself. Also an accomplished musician, Stuart recently provided publicity photos of special edition guitars built in Conway by the Valley Arts Division of Gibson USA for the Live 8 charity concert venues worldwide, expanding further into the world of commercial photography.

Stuart’s current exhibit is characteristic of his photography and art experiences: a mix of black and white photography, color photography, portraiture, whimsical photos, alternative print processes and photojournalism. It shows not only his talent, but also his versatility as a photographer and artist.
